Shottermill & Haslemere Reserves V Milford & Witley Reserves
Saturday 8th September
First game of the season started off with an old-fashioned local derby. Both teams fielding both old and new faces all eager to show off what they had. The game started with both teams pressing to get the first goal; but Milford were the first to succeed with a ball crossed in to an unmarked player at the back post who struck it firmly into the back of the net. 0-1. Mere quickly responded with some nice play with a final ball finding its way through to Trev putting him 1 on 1 with the keeper and was tucked away nicely. 1-1. For a while the game was then end-end with both teams trying to get the next goal. That was until a ball was crossed into Hakeem Nickbakht who knocked the ball over the Milford Goalkeeper into the net but was disappointed to not be rewarded with the goal because of an offside decision. Drawing to the end of the first half Milford were awarded a free kick just inside Haslemere’s Half. The ball was crossed in which should’ve been easily dealt with but after not touching anyone rolled into the Haslemere goal. 1-2 to Milford.
The second started similar to how the first half went. Both teams striving for a goal with good defending from both teams. Mere getting a few opportunities in behind but brought back most times for offside. Some of them being a bit controversial. Milford almost came close to extending their lead but denied by quick closing down and a triple save from the Haslemere goalkeeper. Haslemere then tried to change things up by going into a 4-3-3 formation which almost paid off as they had a chance inside the Milford box but unfortunately the shot was placed directly at the Milford defender standing on the line. The game finished Shottermill & Haslemere 1 Milford & Witley 2.
With a strong performance Shottermill & Haslemere were unfortunate to come out with a point in their opening game of the season. However, with plenty of positives the boys are confident that this will be a good season. Next week sees the Reserves at Home against Keens Park Rangers Reserves.
Man of the Match was awarded to James Aggett.
